We performed a review of articles where the mechanism of action and postoperative effects are evaluated. Sakallioglu et al. described the oral administration of tranexamic acid at a dosage of 1g before surgery, followed by 1g 3x/day for 5 days postoperatively, demonstrating statistical significance in reducing intraoperative blood loss. Ghavimi et al. demonstrated the intravenous use of tranexamic acid at 10mg/kg, with a reduction in edema, bleeding and periorbital ecchymosis, in addition to Vasconcellos et al., who made a comparison between the use of tranexamic acid and placebo, proving a significant decrease in bleeding peri- and postoperatively.
