However, the physician labor market is still characterized by gender differences regarding payment. Using a nationally representative Peruvian sample of health providers (3,219 male and 1,063 female physi-cians), we estimated the gender gap in the likelihood of earning high wages for physicians and decomposed this gap in a proportion related to differences in individual characteristics (e.g. specialty, labor experience), and a residual proportion related to differences in returns to these characteristics. Our main results reveal that male physicians have on average an 81% higher likelihood of earning high salaries (monthly earning level > 5,000 PEN) relative to their female counterparts. Further, the main proportion of this gap is associated to the unexplained component (among 57% and 77%, according to the model specification), which may be associated to unobservable characteristics and discrimination in the Peruvian labor market.Revisado por paresapplication/pdf10.1590/0102-311X00043018Cadernos de Saude Publicahttps://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14005/9093http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0102-311X2019000605011&tlng=enhttp://dx.doi.org/10.1590/0102-311X00043018spaEscola Nacional de Saude PublicaCadernos de Saude Publicainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Universidad San Ignacio de LoyolaRepositorio Institucional - USILreponame:USIL-Institucionalinstname:Universidad San Ignacio de Loyolainstacron:USILDecompositionJob marketSex differencePhysicianThe gender differences in highly paid wage: A case study of peruvian physiciansLas diferencias de género en los sueldos de mejor remuneración: el estudio de caso de los médicos peruanosDiferenças de gênero em salários altos: um estudo de caso de médicos peruanosinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlePublicationORIGINAL2019_Amaya_The-gender-differences-in-highly-paid-wage.pdf2019_Amaya_The-gender-differences-in-highly-paid-wage.pdfapplication/pdf631981https://repositorio.usil.edu.pe/bitstreams/7172e082-f773-493a-851c-86b1a70ab6d4/downloadd3ff15c644ae178071a7973f1c2b927eMD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-8403https://repositorio.usil.edu.pe/bitstreams/eac77ec7-b7c6-4fdc-85a6-2cd73175ba61/downloadf9976ed1e62b1fd0bb0352d58dba7be2MD52TEXT2019_Amaya_The-gender-differences-in-highly-paid-wage.pdf.txt2019_Amaya_The-gender-differences-in-highly-paid-wage.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain30434https://repositorio.usil.edu.pe/bitstreams/90ace889-0289-46b0-8c81-d300770637b4/downloadf8e907bdf512a9073b34abf18af57af3MD53THUMBNAIL2019_Amaya_The-gender-differences-in-highly-paid-wage.pdf.jpg2019_Amaya_The-gender-differences-in-highly-paid-wage.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg9256https://repositorio.usil.edu.pe/bitstreams/9b0874b2-1eab-42fe-999c-be7f38286793/download4909214faa3d740268f1c3d7bee89fa2MD5420.500.14005/9093oai:repositorio.usil.edu.pe:20.500.14005/90932023-04-17 12:13:54.466https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttps://repositorio.usil.edu.peRepositorio institucional de la Universidad San Ignacio de Loyolarepositorio.institucional@usil.edu.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 |
