La población de estudio estuvo constituida por 124 pacientes con síntomas de reflujo gastroesofágico; quienes se dividieron en 2 grupos: con esofagitis y sin esofagitis. Resultados: No se apreciaron diferencias significativas en relación a los pacientes con esofagitis y sin ella respecto a las variables edad, género y procedencia. La frecuencia de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 en pacientes con esofagitis por reflujo gastroesofágico fue 19%. La frecuencia de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 en pacientes sin esofagitis por reflujo gastroesofágico fue 4%. La diabetes mellitus tipo 2 es factor asociado a esofagitis por reflujo gastroesofágico con un odds ratio de 5.28 el cual fue significativo (p<0.05). Conclusiones: Existe asociación entre diabetes mellitus tipo 2 y esofagitis por reflujo gastroesofágico en Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
