Descripción
Sumario:  This academic work analyses reggaeton from a gender perspective and focuses on the contribution of women in this musical practice. Faced with the invisibility and the typecasting that artists suffer in reggaeton, explores the factors which makes it easier for reggaeton artistic women to get a recognition for their contributions and the strategies that allow them to overcome being considered only lyrical companions of male artists. Based on the analysis of songs with accredited female vocal presence, it is proposed that having kinship relationships or an international prior trajectory entering to reggaeton allows women to overcome invisibility and receive credit for their contributions to the musical genre development. Likewise, from the analysis of songs and albums of female authorship, it is concluded that the appropriation of masculinity and the creation of feminine spaces are empowerment strategies that reggaeton artistic woman use to overcome typecasting.
