Sumario: | The present investigation was to determine the in vitro effect of the ethanolic extract of the leaves of Annona muricata on the growth of Shigella boydii ATCC 9207. To this end, the ethanolic extract concentrations of 250 and 500 mg/mL were studied, it was evaluated by the diffusion method on Kirby Bauer agar, the bacteria was seeded on Mueller Hinton agar; we proceeded to make 6 mm diameter wells and 50 uL of each extract concentration was added; Ciprofloxacin was used as a positive control at a concentration of 5ug and as a negative control was used sterile distilled water, incubated at 37 ° C for 24 hours, 10 repetitions were performed, and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined by the macrodilution method in BHI broth. It was found that the average diameter of the inhibition halo for the concentration of 250mg / mL was 12.6mm and for 500mg / mL it was 16mm and according to the Duraffourd scale, these results classified as "sensitive" and "very sensitive" to the study extract; and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration was 200mg / mL. It was concluded that the ethanolic extract extracted from the leaves of Annona muricata significantly inhibits the growth of Shigella boydii ATCC 9207 at the concentrations of 250 mg/mL and 500 mg/mL with the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) being 200 mg/mL. |
