Sumario:This research study of descriptive correlational cross-sectional was conducted with mothers of children under 5 years of age to that registered in the Module of the Child Care Health Post "High Moche" during the months from May to July of 2008, with the purpose of determining the relationship between factors biosocioculturales (age, educational level, occupation and level of information) and maternal practices in the prevention of acute respiratory infections. The sample consisted of 78 mothers selected according to established criteria for inclusion. Data collection was obtained through the application of the instrument called: Factors Biosocioculturales Maternal and Practices on Prevention of Acute Respiratory Infections (FBPMSPIRA), we used the personal interview, taking into account the principles of anonymity, privacy and free participation. The data obtained were tabulated, processed SPSS version 15 and presented in simple tables and double entry, with numerical and percentage frequencies, as well as graphics. An analysis of the relationship factors, was conducted by the test criteria of independence square Chi (X2). Find the following conclusions: Of the total mothers in the study, 80.8 percent are between the ages of 20 to 35 years. The 62.8 percent have a secondary level of education, 73.1 percent of mothers do not work and an 84.6 percent have a good level of information. The maternal practices on the prevention of acute respiratory infections in children under age 5, are adequate in an 83.3 per cent. The practices on the prevention of maternal IRA in children under 5 years only presents statistical significant relationship with educational attainment.
