Concentración de hemoglobina al 1º y 6º mes de vida de lactantes expuestos a VIH tratados con zidovudina posnatal y/o prenatal

Objective: To evaluate the concentration of hemoglobin at the age of 1 and 6 month in infants, who they were HIV-exposed and treated with postnatal and / or prenatal zidovudine. Materials and methods: Retrospective descriptive observational study. Two groups were considered: HIV-exposed infants treated with AZT in the prenatal and postnatal period and HIV-exposed infants treated with AZT only in the postnatal period. The T-student test for independent samples was sed to compare the mean hemoglobin concentration between both groups at the age of 1 and 6 month. p <0.05: significant. Results: The hemoglobin concentration in first group at the age of 1 and 6 months was 9.83 ± 0.28 and 11.61 ± 0.19, respectively; in the second group, it was 10.14±0.20 g/dl at the age of 1 month and 11.23 ±0.18 g/dl at the age of 6 months. There were no significant differences between both groups either at the age 1 month (p = 0.38) or at the age 6 month (p = 0.16). Conclusion: The hemoglobin concentration was in both groups decreased at the age of 1 month and normal at the age of 6 months; in addition, there were no differences either at the 1st or 6th month.
