Sumario:In the present research work, the effect of praziquantel a nd garlic extract Allium sativum for the control of Clinostomum sp. metacercariae (a trematode) in Apistogramma sp. was evaluated. The study was conducted at the Amazon Research Center for Ornamental Fishes (ARCOF). The experimental population consisted of 48 Apistogramma sp. fish with an average weight of 6 ± 2 g and an average standard length of 8 ± 1.5 cm. The fish were extracted from the experimental ponds of the Research Center and placed in 24 experimental units, with two fish each, containing 3L of water. The Apistogramma sp. fish were infested with Clinostomum sp. metacercariae in the dorsal and anal fins. Two treatments were used in the study: praziquantel and garlic extract, each with different doses. Praziquantel doses were T1: 80 mg/L, T2: 100 mg/L, T3: 120 mg/L, and T0: Control, while garlic extract doses were T1: 4 ml/L, T2: 5 ml/L, T3: 6 ml/L, and T0: Control. Both treatments were applied for 5 days, every 24 hours, and parasitic indexes such as prevalence, efficacy, and survival were evaluated. Data analysis was performed using Excel spreadsheets and ANOVA variance test. The results showed that fish treated with praziquantel achieved 100% efficacy against Clinostomum sp. metacercariae after 5 days of treatment, causing them to detach from the fish's fins. The survival rate of fish treated with praziquantel was 100%. In contrast, the efficacy of garlic extract treatment was zero (0), and a survival rate of 50% was recorded for fish subjected to doses of 5 and 6 ml/L from the fourth day of treatment, reaching 0% survival on the fifth day, at which point all fish subjected to the mentioned concentrations died. The physical and chemical parameters did not show significant variations and remained within the optimal ranges for fish farming.
