Descripción
Sumario:The study was carried out in the Chapra Puerto Pijuayal community, with the purpose of identifying and analyzing the traditional knowledge and practices used for the environmental management of access to water resources. It is a non-experimental quantitative research of the exploratory type - descriptive, analytical, transversal. The primary information was collected with a structured survey with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability level of 0.801, applied to the population who can communicate in Spanish and indigenous leaders of the Chapra Autonomous Government. The normality of the data - Shapiro Wilk reports that the data are normal, so the Pearson correlation test was used and it allowed us to conclude: Traditional knowledge and practices in water management have proven to be valuable elements for environmental sustainability and community resilience. Although oral traditions continue to be a source of transmission of knowledge about water management, there is a general negative perception about their current effectiveness. This suggests that the influence of Western culture and the lack of formal transmission mechanisms have weakened these traditional systems. However, the Chapra community is aware of the interconnection between natural ecosystems such as water, land and forests, indicating a strong knowledge base that can be revitalized with the right support. The community positively values their traditional knowledge and practices, recognizing that they have played a crucial role in water conservation and environmental protection. However, the weakening of the role of elders and leaders as guardians of knowledge is worrying, underscoring the urgent need to promote the transmission of this knowledge to new generations
