Departamento Académico de Manejo Pesquero y Medio AmbienteLa presente investigación pretende contribuir con el manejo pesquero de la sardina (Triportheus angulatus; Spix & Agassiz 1829) procedente de los ríos Amazonas y Ucayali a través de la determinación de la edad y crecimiento. Para ello se realizó la lectura de anillos de 278 otolitos asteriscus de individuos cuyas tallas oscilaron entre 7.7 y 16.6cm de longitud estándar, colectados por el programa AQUAREC-IIAP, durante el 2008 y 2009 procedentes de los ríos Amazonas y Ucayali. El conteo de marcas fue realizado en los cortes transversales de los otolitos los cuales fueron previamente tratados con ácido etilendiaminotetraacético (EDTA) y teñidos con azul de toluidina. El análisis de borde y el incremento marginal relativo (IMR) validaron la formación de un anillo anual entre los meses de agosto a octubre, durante la época seca. La edad máxima observada fue de 5 años y los parámetros de crecimiento estimados fueron para los individuos del río Amazonas, hembras: L∞= 14.806cm, K= 0.911 y t0= -0.215; machos: L∞= 14.457cm, K= 0.766 y t0= -0.399 y para los individuos del río Ucayali, hembras L∞= 15.573cm, K= 0.790 y t0= -0.174; machos: L∞= 13.520cm, K= 1.338 y t0= 0.106. El índice de crecimiento Φ´ calculado fue similar para ambos casos. Por otro lado, el test de máxima verosimilitud mostró diferencias significativas entre el crecimiento de hembras y machos en cada río.The present study determines age and growth of the sardine (Triportheus angulatus; Spix & Agassiz 1829) from the Amazon and Ucayali rivers in order to contribute to its management. A total of 278 otolith rings were analysed from individuals ranged between 7.7 and 16.6 cm of standard length, collected by the AQUAREC-IIAP program, during 2008 and 2009 in the Amazon and Ucayali rivers. The counting of marks was made on transverse sections of the otoliths previously treated with ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and stained with toluidine blue. The edge analysis and the relative marginal increase (IMR) validated the formation of annual rings, during the dry season. The maximum age observed was 5 years and the estimated growth parameters for the individuals of the Amazon River were females: L∞= 14.806cm, K= 0.911 and t0= -0.215; males: L∞= 14.457cm, K= 0.766 and t0= -0.399 and for the individuals of the Ucayali River were females L∞= 15.573cm, K= 0.790 and t0= - 0.174; m ales: L∞= 13.520cm, K= 1.338 and t0= 0.106.
