description Las fracturas de la extremidad distal de la tibia, representa un traumatismo complejo, difícil de tratar, por la ubicación anatómica muy cercana a la articulación de tobillo. La articulación de tobillo es una pieza fundamental para realizar descargas de peso, mantener la posición en bípedo y realizar la marcha. Tiene dos mecanismos de lesión, la primera es por traumatismos de alta velocidad e impactacion del astrágalo directamente en la superficie articular de la tibia. El segundo y en menor porcentaje se da por accidentes, donde además de la impactacion se presenta un componente de rotación.

The ankle joint is a fundamental piece to perform weight discharges, maintain the biped position and perform the march.
