It is an original appropriation of both Castiglione´s The Courtier (1528) and Botero´s Reason of State (1589). An interesting case of cultural appropriation, Almeida´s work is, however, notably original, since it is designed to be a manual for honorees of the Peruvian viceroyalty to navigate the court at Madrid. The book not only covers formalities and protocol, but, above all, delves into their meaning in the wider context of an ailing Hispanic Monarchy and the relaunch of government based on anti-Machiavellianism. Almeida’s notion of Christian government includes both the individual and the State.El tratado escrito por el agustino fray Alonso de Almeida y publicado en Lima en 1644, Pretendiente de la tierra, recoge una doble propuesta de interés para los estudios sobre prácticas del poder e ideologías de imperio. Se trata de una apropiación periférica y tardía de las obras de Baltasar Castiglione, Los cuatro libros del cortesano (1528), y Giovanni Botero, La razón de Estado (1589). La obra de Almeida, sin embargo, denota originalidad, pues se trata de un manual para beneméritos del virreinato peruano que gestionan en la corte de Madrid. El libro no solo cubre los aspectos formales y protocolares del proceso de gestión, pero sobre todo ahonda en el sentido de la misma en el contexto mayor de una abatida Monarquía Hispana y el relanzamiento del gobierno cristiano sustentado en el antimaquiavelismo.
