The text deals with ideas and projects in culture and arts, especially visual arts and performingarts in Brazil aimed at the construction of identity through post-colonial resistance mixed with the modernist utopias of the 20th century. South America, freeing itself from the oppression of the colonial era, had to redefine its national and cultural identity. The utopianbeliefof meeting the Other, the representative of traditional cultures as the bearer of renewal characterizes the search of many artists and thinkers of the 20th century. The experiences of Brazilian modernism, tropicalism, andBrazilian performance bring their version of this perspective, thefigure of the American Indians in various ways. Brazilian art of the 20th century using the concept of symbolic anthropophagy wants to devour Europe. But as contemporary decolonial studies show, Brazilian modernism, transforming the Indian into a rhetorical and aesthetic figure, ends up in this way devouring its own indigenous people. The decolonial concepts and finally the contemporary Amerindian perspective bring their own answer, deconstructing and exposing hidden prejudices of Brazilian culture |

América del Sur, liberándose de la opresión colonial , tuvo que redefinir su identidad nacional y cultural. La creencia utópica en el encuentro con el Otro, el representante de las culturas tradicionales como portador de renovación, caracteriza la búsqueda de muchos artistas y pensadores del siglo XX. La experiencia del modernismo brasileño, el tropicalismo y la performance brasileña evocan, de diversas maneras, la figura de los indios americanos. El arte brasileño del siglo XX, utilizando el concepto de antropofagia simbólica, quiere “devorar” a Europa, pero como muestran los estudios decoloniales contemporáneos, el modernismo brasileño, al transformar al indio en una figura retórica y estética, termina por devorar al indio mismo. Los conceptos decoloniales y, finalmente, la perspectiva amerindia contemporánea traen su propia respuesta, deconstruyendo y exponiendo los prejuicios ocultos de la cultura brasileña.O texto trata de ideias e projetos em cultura e artes, especialmente, artes visuais e artes cênicas no Brasil, voltadas para a construção da identidade por meio da resistência pós-colonial misturadas com as utopias modernistas do século 20. A América do Sul, libertando-se da opressão colonial, teve que redefinir sua identidade nacional e cultural. A crença utópica de encontro com o Outro, o representante das culturas tradicionais como portador da renovação caracteriza a busca de muitos artistas e pensadores do século XX. A experiência do modernismo brasileiro, do tropicalismo e da performance brasileira , todas elas evocam, de várias maneiras, a figura dos índios americanos. A arte brasileira do século XX, usando conceito de antropofagia simbólica, quer “devorar” a Europa, mas como mostram os estudos decoloniais contemporâneos, o modernismo brasileiro, transformando o índio em figura retórica e estética, acaba devorando o próprio indígena.
