Sumario: | Objective: Describe the experience of the nurse in the face of the pediatric patient death. Method: Qualitative, phenomenological research. The information collection was carried out through a phenomenological interview with a guiding question formulated in a focus group, the experience of 19 nurses from the Hospital de Especialidades del Niño y la Mujer was collected. The analysis was carried out with the content analysis technique, in a traditional way, so no software was used for it. With regard to ethics in the study, informed consent was granted and the will was respected, as well as the freedom to participate. Main results: The narrated testimonies revealed four thematic categories, which are located according to the order of appearance in the speech, the first was called "determining factors", the second "negative experiences", followed by the named "positive experiences" and " learnings”. A greater breakdown of negative experiences is observed, but it is found that positive experiences allow the nursing professional to give meaning to their disciplinary practice and personal life. Conclusion: The results allow us to affirm that the nurses who go through the grieving process when a patient dies are very diverse among themselves, however, it is observed that living closely and constantly with the loss of significant people allows them to face the life with a rebuilt attitude of themselves. |
