Besides, the number of chemotherapeutic agents is small, its toxicity is high and when its toxicity is reduced, bioavailability also reduces the success of vaccination strategies. It is here that the design of nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems turns out to be a promising strategy in the treatment of this parasite. Th e objective of this paper was to show relevant information on nanotechnology applied to the treatment of leishmaniasis as an innovative tool for the control of this disease. Th rough the review of scientific literature in databases based on descriptors or related keywords. Th e paper was structured in fi ve sections to facilitate reading and analysis: pharmacological treatment still recommended and a small introduction to vaccines against leishmaniasis, application of nanotechnology in human health, the case of leishmaniosis, aspects that are pointed out in nanomedicines for better its eff ectiveness, vaccines against leishmaniasis in nanotechnology, and conclusions. It is concluded that nanobiotechnology, specifi cally nanoparticles, is an excellent tool for introducing the active substance of drugs into infected cells during the pathological process produced by the parasite of leishmaniasis.La leishmaniosis es un importante problema de salud pública por la elevada morbilidad y mortalidad que tiene a nivel mundial con tendencia al aumento de casos y extensión de la infección a distintas latitudes, además es pequeño el número de agentes quimioterapéuticos, alta su toxicidad y reducida su biodisponibilidad, también es reducido éxito de las estrategias de vacunación, es aquí que el diseño de sistemas de liberación de drogas basados en nanotecnología resultan ser una estrategia prometedora en el tratamiento de esta parasitosis. El objetivo del presente escrito fue mostrar información relevante sobre nanotecnología aplicada al tratamiento de la leishmaniosis como herramienta innovadora para el control de esta enfermedad. Por medio de la revisión de la literatura científica en bases de datos a partir de descriptores o palabras clave relacionadas. El escrito se estructuro en cinco secciones para facilitar la lectura y análisis: tratamiento farmacológico aún recomendado y una pequeña introducción a la vacunas contra leishmaniosis, aplicación de la nanotecnología en la salud humana el caso leishmaniosis, aspectos hacia los que se apunta en las nanomedicinas para mejor su efectividad, vacunas contra leishmaniosis en nanotecnología y conclusiones. Se concluye que La nanobiotecnología, específicamente las nanopartículas son una excelente herramienta para introducir el principio activo de las drogas en las células infectadas durante el proceso patológico producido por el parásito de la leishmaniosis.
