A critical moment took place at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889 with the construction of a questionable and useless tower of 300 meters, as a promising building of modernity.Las exposiciones universales realizadas desde la segunda mitad del siglo XIX permi- tieron mostrar los acelerados avances de la ciencia y la tecnología, así como también atestiguar las tensiones en al arte y la arquitectura entrampadas en un caduco histori- cismo. El hierro y el “arte estructural” de los ingenieros permitirán discutibles maneras de afrontar el hecho arquitectónico.
