The poet’s tendency towards erotic themes is evident from Los heraldos negros, but the exacerbation of sexuality directly alluded to in Trilce is one of the marks that differentiate it from his previous work, turning it into a sample of moral and aesthetic avantgarde that in part explains the rejection with which the book was received in the Peruvian cultural environment. Added to this is the constant recurrence of frustrated procreation (abortion) that underlies one of the main semantic fields of the work.Partiendo de diversos poemas de Trilce (1922), este artículo explora algunas de las instancias en las que el tema sexual se hace presente en el segundo libro de César Vallejo; y propone una nueva hipótesis sobre el origen y el significado del neologismo «Trilce» en función de la relación entre erotismo y procreación. La tendencia del poeta por el tema erótico es evidente desde Los heraldos negros, pero la exacerbación de la sexualidad directamente aludida en Trilce es una de las marcas que lo diferencian de su obra anterior, convirtiéndolo en una muestra de vanguardismo moral y estético que explica en parte el rechazo con que el libro fue recibido en el ambiente cultural peruano.
