The care of the sick was organized separating some from others, in a context of great social differences. Within the planned changes, at the level of spatial organization, there was a cross-shaped plant typology, which was developed in different countries, including Peru. In the city of Lima, unfortunately, most of the hospitals from the colonial era have been destroyed, without any attempt to preserve them.La salud y la higiene constituyen características distintivas en sociedades modernas. Estas preocupaciones, sobre nuevos temas de interés público, trajeron consecuencias y manifestaciones en el Perú durante la época virreinal. La arquitectura hospitalaria reflejó una nueva conciencia para enfrentar los asuntos de la salud, fuertemente impregnada de un carácter religioso. La atención de los enfermos se organizó separando a unos de otros, en un contexto de grandes diferencias sociales. Dentro de los cambios planeados, a nivel de organización espacial, existió una tipología de planta en forma de cruz, que se desarrolló en distintos países, incluyendo el Perú.
