En este trabajo trataré de mostrar la relación que tuvieron algunos de los intelectuales de la generación romántica frente al poder político del coronel Mariano Ignacio Prado, caudillo militar que gobernó el Perú entre 1865 y 1868. Compromiso, lealtad, discrepancia y oposición serán las actitudes políticas más adoptadas por los miembros de esta elite ilustrada, surgida a mediados del siglo XIX.
