In this text we will see the effects produced by the censorship of Boccaccio’s Decameron; starting from the scope of the violations of rights, the censorship process, and the content of the text, to the point of considering the law as an instrument of social control, through which groups of power can continue to exercise a hegemonic role over the population. El disfrute de los derechos humanos es fundamental para el desarrollo de la vida humana. Uno de estos derechos es la libertad de expresión que se ve afectada con la censura; sin embargo, a consecuencia del principio de interdependencia de los derechos humanos, la censura también vulnera derechos culturales. En este texto veremos los efectos que produjo la censura del Decamerón de Boccaccio; partiendo del alcance de las violaciones a derechos, el proceso de censura y el contenido del texto, hasta llegar a considerar al derecho como un instrumento de control social, a través del cual, grupos de poder pueden seguir ejerciendo un papel hegemónico sobre la población.
