It will be based on the mentions of this disease in the traditions «El rosal de Rosa» and «Los mosquitos de santa Rosa» by Ricardo Palma. It will also identify the regions where the highest incidence of malaria cases is found, the symptoms that arise from the mosquito bite, the treatments that are rooted and up to date; finally, it will trace how the viceregal society contracted this disease and will review the measures that are taken nowadays to control it. En el presente artículo se analizará la incidencia del paludismo en el Perú desde la época del virreinato hasta la actualidad. Se tomarán como bases las menciones de esta enfermedad en las tradiciones «El rosal de Rosa» y «Los mosquitos de santa Rosa» de Ricardo Palma. Asimismo, se identificarán las regiones donde se encuentra la mayor incidencia de casos de paludismo, los síntomas que surgen a partir de la picadura del mosquito, los tratamientos arraigados y actualizados; por último, se rastreará de qué forma la sociedad virreinal contraía esta enfermedad y se revisarán las medidas que se toman en la actualidad para controlarla.
