The patient was a lifelong resident of Lima, Peru, an endemic area for HTLV-1 infections1,2,3. The clinical course was characterized by abrupt onset and rapid progression of neurological signs and symptoms: paraparesia end neurogenic bladder. There are reports in Latin America with similar prevalence with B and C hepatitis on hemodialysis group4,5,6. There are no reports in Peru, also no screening in kidney transplantation (receptor and donors). Key words: Myelopathy; HTLV-1; Chronic renal failure. (source: MeSH NLM) DOI: 10.25176/RFMH.v18.n2.1292 Reporte de un caso de mielopatía asociada (HAM) a virus humano linfotrofico de células T tipo 1 (HTLV1) que ocurre en paciente mujer de 60 años con enfermedad renal crónica en hemodiálisis, además, con antecedente de diabetes mellitus 2. Paciente residente de Lima, Perú, zona endémica de HTLV-11,2,3. El cuadro clínico se caracterizó por síntomas y signos neurológicos de inicio abrupto y evolución rápida: paraparesia con imposibilidad de caminar y vejiga neurogenica con sonda vesical permanente. En la región, se reporta prevalencia de HTLV-1 en pacientes en hemodiálisis similar a la de hepatitis B y C4,5,6. No existen cifras de esta infección en el Perú. Además, no se realiza despistaje en donantes y/o receptores de trasplante renal. Palabras clave: Mielopatía; HTLV-1; Insuficiencia renal crónica.
