This article proposes a notion of the body based on the examination of the physical characteristics and dimensions of meaning of quipus, particularly those present in Jorge Eduardo Eielson’s plastic work or referred to in his writing. This notion focuses on the formal and material aspect of the body as a sign, understood as a message that comes from beyond, from the limit of the symbolic, and as a construct produced and regulated politically and historically by culture. This allows us to understand the production of the body for its instrumentalisation, which occurs in the use of bodies as objects, a process that is referred to as objectification (e.g. lovers, slaves, workers, sex workers, surgery patients, among others).
