Finally, it analizes the social and intellectual factors that restrained a stronger development of peruvian science during the period.Este estudio es una historia social de los inicios de la ciencia moderna en el Perú. Analiza las variables que permitieron, hacia fines del siglo pasado, la emergencia de la investigación científica organizada en instituciones y revistas. Examina asimismo la influencia de criterios extracientifícos, como el Nacionalismo, en los estudios sobre la Verruga y el Mal de Altura.
