The 138 strains isolated and identified from patients and the S. mutans ATCC® 25175™ control were confronted with the methanolic fraction by the disk diffusion method, having as positive control 0.12% chlorhexidine and negative control Milli-Q water and DMSO (1:1). Results: It was found that the inhibition diameter of the strains extracted from children diagnosed with caries against the methanolic fraction showed greater diameter (14.13 mm) in relation to the strain of S. mutans ATCC® 25175™ (10.16 mm) with statistically significant differences. In the genotyping of the 138 strains with the different specific primers (c, e, f, and k), it was found that 63.77% belonged to genotype c, 21.73% to genotypes c and e, and 14.50% to genotypes c and f. Conclusions: The methanolic fraction of Oxapampa propolis presents inhibitory activity on S. mutans strains isolated and genotyped in children diagnosed with caries. In addition, it presents greater inhibitory activity in strains obtained from children compared to S. mutans ATCC® 25175™. |

Materiales y métodos: Se recolectaron 150 muestras de hisopado oral, las cuales fueron sembradas para el aislamiento de S. mutans y luego identificadas por pruebas bioquímicas de fermentación de carbohidratos, Api 20 Strep (bioMérieux) y PCR convencional. Las 138 cepas aisladas e identificadas de los pacientes y el control de S. mutans ATCC® 25175™ se enfrentaron a la fracción metanólica por el método de difusión en disco, teniendo como control positivo clorhexidina al 0,12 % y control negativo agua Milli-Q y DMSO (1:1). Resultados: Se encontró que el diámetro de inhibición de las cepas extraídas de los niños diagnosticados con caries frente a la fracción metanólica mostró mayor diámetro (14,13 mm) en relación con la cepa de S. mutans ATCC® 25175™ (10,16 mm) con diferencias estadísticamente significativas. En la genotipificación de las 138 cepas con los diferentes primers específicos (c, e, f y k), se encontró que el 63,77 % pertenecía al genotipo c, el 21,73 % a los genotipos c y e, y el 14,50 % a los genotipos c y f. Conclusiones: La fracción metanólica del propóleo de Oxapampa presenta actividad inhibitoria en cepas de S. mutans aisladas y genotipificadas en niños diagnosticados con caries. Además, presenta mayor actividad inhibitoria en las cepas obtenidas de los niños en comparación con el S. mutans ATCC® 25175™.Objetivo: Determinar o efeito inibitório da fração metanólica da própolis de Oxapampa, Peru, sobre diferentes genótipos de Streptococcus mutans em crianças com diagnóstico de cárie. Materiais e métodos: 150 amostras de swab oral foram coletadas, semeadas para isolamento de S. mutans e depois identificadas por testes bioquímicos de fermentação de carboidratos, Api 20 Strep (bioMérieux) e PCR convencional. As 138 cepas isoladas e identificadas dos pacientes e o controle S. mutans ATCC® 25175™ foram desafiados com a fração metanólica pelo método de difusão em disco, tendo clorexidina 0,12 % como controle positivo e água Milli-Q e DMSO (1:1) como controle negativo. Resultados: Verificou-se que o diâmetro de inibição das cepas extraídas de crianças diagnosticadas com cárie contra a fração metanólica apresentou maior diâmetro (14,13 mm) em relação à cepa S. mutans ATCC® 25175™ (10,16 mm) com diferenças estatisticamente significativas. Na genotipagem das 138 cepas com os diferentes primers específicos (c, e, f e k), verificou-se que 63,77 % pertenciam ao genótipo c, 21,73 % aos genótipos c e e, e 14,50 % aos genótipos c e f. Conclusões: A fração metanólica da própolis de Oxapampa apresenta atividade inibitória sobre cepas de S. mutans isoladas e genotipadas em crianças diagnosticadas com cárie.
