description The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between population growth and micro- and macroeconomic factors influencing chicken meat production in Peru during the 2016–2020 period. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational research design was employed. The calculation of the Pearson correlation coefficients revealed strong, positive, and statistically significant linear relationships between chicken meat production and demographic variables (population growth: r = 0.9951; p = 0.0004), microeconomic variables (average annual household income: r = 0.8824; p = 0.0475; national consumption of hard yellow maize: r = 0.9442; p = 0.0157), and macroeconomic variables (import of hard yellow maize: r = 0.9472; p = 0.0145; gross domestic product: r = 0.9106; p = 0.0316). A significant negative linear relationship was also observed with soybean meal imports (r = –0.9064; p = 0.0339). The coefficient of determination indicated that these variables explain more than 82% of the variance in national production, reflecting a model with high explanatory power. It is concluded that the Peruvian poultry sector shows a trend of expansion, influenced by economic and demographic factors, as well as by the high acceptance of chicken among the population due to its accessibility, low cost, and culinary versatility. Nevertheless, structural vulnerability is noted in relation to internal factors—such as inflation—and external factors—such as an increase in international prices of key inputs. Finally, pending challenges are highlighted, aimed at integrating the sub-sectors of the production chain, modernizing the regulatory framework, and promoting public-private investment to strengthen the competitiveness of the national poultry sector.

Se empleó un diseño de investigación observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal y correlacional. El cálculo del coeficiente de correlación de Pearson reveló relaciones lineales, fuertes, positivas y estadísticamente significativas entre la producción de carne de pollo y las variables demográficas (crecimiento poblacional: r = 0,9951; p = 0,0004), microeconómicas (ingreso familiar promedio anual: r = 0,8824; p = 0,0475; consumo nacional de maíz amarillo duro: r = 0,9442; p = 0,0157), y macroeconómicas (importación de maíz amarillo duro: r = 0,9472; p = 0,0145); producto bruto interno: r = 0,9106; p = 0,0316). Asimismo, se identificó una relación lineal negativa y significativa con la importación de torta de soya (r = –0,9064; p = 0,0339). El coeficiente de determinación indicó que dichas variables explican más del 82 % de la varianza en la producción nacional, lo que evidencia un modelo con alta capacidad explicativa. Se concluye que el sector avícola peruano presenta una tendencia de expansión, influida por factores económicos y demográficos, así como por la alta aceptación del producto entre la población, debido a su accesibilidad, bajo costo y versatilidad culinaria. No obstante, se advierte una vulnerabilidad estructural frente a factores internos —como la inflación— y externos —como el incremento de precios internacionales de insumos clave—. Além disso, identificou-se uma relação linear negativa e significativa com a importação de farelo de soja (r = –0.9064; p = 0.0339). O coeficiente de determinação indicou que essas variáveis explicam mais de 82% da variância da produção nacional, evidenciando um modelo com alta capacidade explicativa. Conclui-se que o setor avícola peruano apresenta uma tendência de expansão, influenciada por fatores econômicos e demográficos, bem como pela elevada aceitação do produto entre a população, devido à sua acessibilidade, baixo custo e versatilidade culinária. No entanto, observa-se uma vulnerabilidade estrutural diante de fatores internos — como a inflação — e externos — como o aumento dos preços internacionais de insumos-chave.
