We synthesize a chapter of the «Piura’s Economic Report (1804)», written by don Joaquin de Helguero, in order to introduce you knowledge about ecological archipelagoes that were named at that time «Los Valles» (“The Valleys”), and also Piura’s mountains. Diversity exploration of variables tied to geographical dimensions and economy will allow us to enter in the knowledge of the conjuncture of regional crisis and the particular situation of the indigenous and highland companies that crosses this region after the FEN of 1791En este ensayo abordamos una temática poco estudiada por la historiografía regional de Piura: el hombre como agente modelador del paisaje en la región de Piura. Buscamos describir las características de la geografía colonial de un espacio regional norteño y explorar la dinámica y los flujos de la producción ganadera en las estancias ganaderas y los pueblos y las comunidades indígenas. Sintetizamos un capítulo del “Informe Económico de Piura (1804)” de don Joaquín de Helguero, para introducirnos en el conocimiento de los archipiélagos ecológicos denominados en ese tiempo “los valles” y la sierra de la provincia de Piura.
