A follicular classification was developed based on the follicular characteristics and based on this, the ovarian follicular ratio, follicular diameters, and the percentage of follicular atresia were determined. The following phases are considered: Perinucleolar (PN), Endogenous vitellogenesis I (VE1), Endogenous vitellogenesis II (VE2) and exogenous vitellogenesis (VEX). The highest frequency of PN follicles was presented at the age of 12 months (p<005), with no significant differences in the frequency of VE1 follicles at 18 and 24 months. VE2 and VEX stages were only observed at 24 months of age. No significant difference was found in the percentage of atresia between ages. The results obtained suggest that the females have apparent characteristics compatible with the onset of an advanced maturation of the ovary from 24 months of age.Se realizó la descripción histológica de los folículos ováricos de paiche de 12, 18 y 24 meses de edad de una piscifactoría en Iquitos en mayo de 2018, con base a un muestreo de conveniencia. Se trabajó con 9, 13 y 4 ovarios de paiches de 12, 18 y 24 meses, respectivamente. Se desarrolló una clasificación folicular con base a las características foliculares y con base a esto, se determinó la proporción folicular ovárica, los diámetros foliculares y el porcentaje de atresia folicular. Se consideraron las siguientes fases: Perinucleolar (PN), Vitelogénesis I endógena (VE1), Vitelogénesis endógena II (VE2) y Vitelogénesis exógena (VEX). La mayor frecuencia de folículos PN se presentó a la edad de 12 meses (p<005), no habiendo diferencias significativas en la frecuencia de folículos VE1 a los 18 y 24 meses. Las etapas VE2 y VEX solo se observaron a los 24 meses. No se encontró diferencia significativa en el porcentaje de atresia entre edades.
