Benavides illegal until 1939 with full powers to legislate to stop the functions of Congress December 8,1936.El artículo aborda las elecciones generales de 1936, previamente analiza el escenario internacional, latinoamericano y nacional que antecedió a las elecciones, los movimientos y partidos políticos participantes y sus candidatos, los medios de comunicación, el universo electoral, las relaciones civil-militar, los resultados e incidentes del proceso, y finalmente el desenlace: se declaró ilegal el sufragio emitido en el proceso electoral del 11 de octubre de aquel año, con ello la anulación de las elecciones generales y la prórroga del mandato del general Oscar R.
