The results show that total economic losses amounted to 306 871 million Chilean pesos (CLP), with a significant increase in recent years. Losses in milk production were more substantial than losses in meat production, which is attributed to the larger dairy cattle population in the country. The regions of Los Lagos and Los Ríos were the most affected, as they concentrate the highest milk production and also exhibit a high prevalence of fascioliasis. The study highlights the importance of controlling this disease in Chilean livestock and suggests implementing management strategies to mitigate economic losses.Fasciola hepatica es un parásito que afecta al ganado causando un importante impacto económico debido a la disminución de la producción de carne y leche. En este estudio, se analizó el impacto económico de la distomatosis en la ganadería chilena durante el periodo 2011-2020. Los datos se recopilaron a partir de informes gubernamentales, estimándose las pérdidas económicas relacionadas con la distomatosis. Los resultados muestran que las pérdidas económicas totales ascendieron a 306 871 millones de pesos chilenos (CLP), con un aumento significativo en los últimos años. Las pérdidas en la producción de leche fueron más significativas que las pérdidas en la producción de carne, lo que se debe a la mayor población de ganado lechero en el país. Las regiones de Los Lagos y Los Ríos fueron las más afectadas, ya que concentran la mayor producción de leche y también presentaron una alta prevalencia de distomatosis.
