Este fenómeno juega un rol activo en la modificación de las diferentes propiedades que poseen los materiales , las cuales son muy importantes para muchas industrias ( la adhesión de películas delgadas en la industria de aparatos electrónicos, la fatiga y la corrosión interna de los metales, etc.).
