The treatment of 300 g of the sample was carried out by running through water at 90 ° C for 20 seconds, immediately 500 ml of a mixture of water and 96% ethanol in a ratio (1:1) were added, immediately crushing was performed, centrifugation and filtration of the diluted sample. The ethanol fraction was separated with the use of a rotary evaporator for subsequent lyophilization of the liquid fraction. The quantification of polyphenols was performed using the Folin Ciocalteu method and the antioxidant activity was used by the DPPH radical method. All tests are performed in triplicate, calculating the standard deviation and the multiple comparisons test for antioxidant activity. The total polyphenol content was 5,7811 µg equivalent of gallic acid / 1g of Musa acuminata Cavendish Subgroup extract. The percentage of inhibition by the DPPH radical method with a percentage of 33,333; fifty; 66,667 and 100 µg / mL were 20,959; 31,428; 41,030 and 60,290%, respectively. The mean inhibitory concentration was (IC 50) of 81.95 µg / mL. It is concluded that the lyophilized extract of Musa canvedish “Banana” has polyphenols and moderate antioxidant activity, being an interesting sample for future research.El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar el contenido polifenoles totales y evaluar la actividad antioxidante por el método de 2,2-difenil-1-picrilhidrazil (DPPH) en un extracto acuoso liofilizado de la cascara de Musa canvedish “Banana”. Se realizó el tratamiento de 300 g de la muestra pasándose por agua a 90°C por 20 segundos, inmediatamente se agregó 500 mL de una mezcla de agua y etanol de 96% en una relación (1:1), inmediatamente se realizó la trituración, centrifugación y filtración de la muestra diluida. La fracción etanolica fue separada con el uso de un evaporador rotatorio para la posterior liofilización de la fracción acuosa. La cuantificación de polifenoles se realizó mediante el método de Folin Ciocalteu y la actividad antioxidante fue evaluada por el método de radical DPPH. Todos los ensayos se realizaron por triplicado, calculando la desviación estándar y la prueba de comparaciones múltiples para la actividad antioxidante. El contendió de polifenoles totales fue de 5,7811 µg equivalente de ácido gálico / 1g de extracto de Musa acuminata Cavendish Subgroup. El porcentaje de inhibición mediante el método del radical DPPH a concentraciones de 33,333; 50; 66,667 y 100µg/mL, fueron de 20,959; 31,428; 41,030 y 60,290%, respectivamente. La concentración inhibitoria media fue de (IC 50) de 81,95 µg/mL.
