RESULTS: One hundred and nineteen variants were assessed in 62 anatomic examinations (46%), 45 samples with one anomaly, 23 with 2 and 6 with 3 or more anomalies. CONCLUSION: Almost a half of cases showed anatomical variation. The accurate knowledge of the saphenofemoral junction and its variant anatomy may help the surgeon to avoid intraoperative accidents and prevent recurrence of varicose veins.OBJETIVO: Determinar las diversas formas que puede adoptar la unión safenofemoral y las tributarias en el área del cayado safeno. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Entre los meses de enero de 1996 y enero de 2001 se estudió 136 confluentes safenofemorales pertenecientes a 121 pacientes intervenidos por varices esenciales, registrando intraoperatoriamente las variantes anatómicas a partir del modelo estándar de Blanchemaison y Santos Gastón. RESULTADOS: En total se contabilizó 119 variantes, para un total de 62 exploraciones "anatómicas" (46%), 45 con 1 anomalía, 23 con 2 y 6 con 3 o más.
