description How should we organize the teaching of the disciplines so that students make epistemic use of the writing tasks they are usually assigned? Among the different ways of teaching academic writing in higher education, this article discusses the interwoven approach, which consists of both teaching the disciplines with writing and teaching to write in an integrated way. We highlight its features and distinguish it from other approaches. We then illustrate it through the collaborative experience developed between an engineering instructor and a writing instructor over 18 months. Our approach contributes to improving the disciplinary instructor’s teaching practice, so that he/she not only assigns and evaluates reading and writing tasks but also teaches how to carry them out; likewise, we try to ensure that writing is used as an epistemic means of crafting disciplinary knowledge, and not only to communicate what has been learned. This article invites to deepen the debate about the teaching of reading, writing, and the genres required in university disciplines by explaining the approach that the GICEOLEM has developed over two decades, and by analyzing the similarities and differences with approaches that are subtly unalike.

Entre las diferentes modalidades de enseñanza de la escritura en la educación superior, este artículo aborda el enfoque entrelazado, que consiste en enseñar las disciplinas con escritura y en enseñar a escribir integradamente, y al que usualmente se llega mediante colaboración interdisciplinar. Destacamos sus rasgos y las diferencias con otras propuestas, para luego ilustrarlo mediante la experiencia colaborativa entre un profesor de ingeniería y un profesor de escritura a lo largo de 18 meses. Nuestro enfoque aporta a mejorar la práctica docente del profesor disciplinar, para que no solo asigne y evalúe tareas de lectura y escritura, sino que también enseñe cómo llevarlas a cabo; asimismo, procuramos que la escritura sea empleada como medio epistémico de elaboración del conocimiento disciplinar, y no solo para comunicar lo aprendido. El artículo invita a profundizar el debate sobre la enseñanza de la lectura, la escritura y los géneros que se requieren en las disciplinas universitarias al explicitar el enfoque que el GICEOLEM ha desarrollado a través de dos décadas y al analizar las similitudes y diferencias con posturas cercanas pero sutilmente distintas.Como organizar o ensino das disciplinas para que os estudantes façam uso epistêmico das tarefas de escrita que lhes são normalmente atribuídas? Entre as diferentes formas de ensino da escrita na universidade, este artigo trata da abordagem entrelaçada, que consiste em ensinar as disciplinas com a escrita quanto em ensinar a escrever de uma forma integrada. Destacamos suas características e as diferenças em relação a outras propostas. Ilustramos a nossa abordagem através da experiência de colaboração desenvolvida entre um professor de engenharia e um professor de escrita durante 18 meses. A nossa abordagem contribui para melhorar a prática pedagógica do professor disciplinar, de modo que ele ou ela não só atribua e avalie tarefas de escrita, mas ensine como realizá-las; procuramos também assegurar que a escrita seja utilizada como um meio epistémico de elaboração de conhecimentos disciplinares, e não apenas para comunicar o que foi aprendido.
