In this framework, illustrated magazines emerged, which became the support of literate culture and marked the rise of graphic art. The present investigation aims to demonstrate how the artistic production system is transformed and the process of visual perception of the modern Lima reader is configured. Likewise, how the magazine El Correo del Perú innovates in the press with the inclusión of images and how a visual culture is elaborated that builds a discourse of modernity and progress in nineteenth-century Peru. Hacia el siglo xix se inicia el proceso de masificación de la imagen a través del desarrollo de los nuevos procesos de reproducción técnica. En este marco surgen las revistas ilustradas que se convierten en soporte de la cultura letrada y marcan el auge del arte gráfico. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo demostrar cómo se transforma el sistema de producción artística y se configura el proceso de percepción visual del lector limeño moderno. Asimismo, cómo desde la revista El Correo del Perú se innova en la prensa con la inclusión de imágenes y cómo se elabora una cultura visual que construye un discurso de modernidad y progreso en el Perú decimonónico.
