Anatomical material from some of these cases was sent to the Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, the Professor, Dr. Peter Weiss, made the histological diagnosis of the disease. Shortly afterwards, and the good offices of Dr. Ramón Montenegro the Bureau of Lima, part of that material was sent to the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, where the Head of Virus Section of Pathology, Dr . Madureira Pará, confirmed the diagnosis of infectious hepatitis.En los años 1952-1955 tuvimos oportunidad de observar el desarrollo de una epidemia de hepatitis infecciosa fulminante en la ciudad de Abancay, capital del Departamento de Apurímac (Perú), de preferencia en niños, aborígenes o nó, de la ciudad y sus aledaños. El material anatómico de algunos de estos casos fué enviado al Laboratorio Patológico de la Facultad de Medicina, cuyo profesor, el Dr. Pedro Weiss, hizo el diagnóstico histológico de la enfermedad.
