Methodologically, the data has been obtained from an elicitation process. The results allow reaffirming the metaphor and metonymy as necessary procedures, but (at the same time) insufficient to explain the generation of new meanings. The explanation also requires an interactional process.En el quechua Ayacucho-Chanca, los términos corpóreos evocan distintos dominios o marcos conceptuales. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en esclarecer la naturaleza del comportamiento polisémico de dichos términos corpóreos. Teóricamente se parte de un conjunto de principios que rigen el fenómeno de la polisemia en el marco de la lingüística cognitiva. Metodológicamente, la data ha sido obtenida a partir de un proceso de elicitación. Los resultados permiten reafirmar la metáfora y la metonimia como procedimientos necesarios, pero (a la vez) insuficientes para explicar la generación de nuevos sentidos.
