In its implementation, teachers play the role of mediator and strategist following the didactic processes: understanding of the problem, design and execution of the strategy, reflection, formalization of the concepts and transfer. The proper application of the heuristic method promotes the development of intuitive, logical, critical and creative thinking in students. The applied methodology consisted of working with two groups: 6th B students, who were called the experimental group and the heuristic method was applied, and 6th A students, called the control group (x), with whom the traditional method. The procedure consisted of administering an entry test to both groups before the intervention and an exit test after the intervention.La presente investigación tiene como objetivo demostrar que el método heurístico incrementa el nivel de aprendizaje de un grupo de estudiantes de la I.E.3003 - Rímac en las competencias del área de matemática. En su implementación los docentes desempeñan el rol de mediador y estratega siguiendo los procesos didácticos: comprensión del problema, diseño y ejecución de la estrategia, reflexión, formalización de los conceptos y transferencia. La aplicación adecuada del método heurístico promueve el desarrollo del pensamiento intuitivo, lógico, crítico y creativo en los estudiantes. La metodología aplicada consistió en trabajar con dos grupos: estudiantes del 6to B, a los cuales se les llamó el grupo experimental y se le aplicó el método heurístico y estudiantes del 6to A, denominado grupo de control (x), con ellos se desarrolló el método tradicional.
