This work included field visits, surveys and the analysis and description of the data collected. It was determined that the most common type of waste found in these areas was plastic, followed by cardboard and paper, and that although the results of the survey show that 100% of the students consider the proper management of solid waste in green areas to be very important, 42% admit to having thrown or abandoned garbage in these spaces. This work is intended to be a starting point for the development of good environmental management of solid waste in order to achieve a healthy and clean environment.La investigación busca analizar la contaminación con residuos sólidos en las áreas verdes de la Facultad de Ingeniería Geológica, Minera, Metalúrgica y Geográfica (FIGMMG), debido a la importancia que estos espacios tienen en el desarrollo integral de los estudiantes. Este trabajo incluyó visitas de campo, encuestas, análisis y descripción de los datos recolectados. Se determinó que el tipo de residuo más encontrado en estas áreas fueron los plásticos (PET), seguidos de cartones y papeles. Si bien el resultado de la encuesta muestra que el 100% de los estudiantes considera muy importante la adecuada gestión de residuos sólidos en las áreas verdes, el 42% admite haber arrojado o abandonado basura en estos espacios.
