Interventions: Autoapplied questionnaire survey to adolescents and young adults in 2001. Chi square, odds ratio and logistic regression were used for statistical analysis. Main outcome measures: Condom use. Results: Time of first coitus differed, males being more precocious. Condom use in the past six months was minimum in both sexes, and the proportion of women who never used condom was high. Conclusions: Logistic regression analysis showed that the main associate factors for not using condom in males were unavailability, less pleasure and less love relationship; in women, loss of romanticism, interference with coitus, and use of other birth-control method.Objetivos: Precisar los factores asociados al no uso del condón en adolescentes y jóvenes en el distrito de Chiclayo y describir algunas características de su conducta sexual. Diseño: Transversal, mediante muestreo polietápico. Lugar: Distrito de Chiclayo, Perú. Pacientes: Trescientos noventa y tres adolescentes y jóvenes, 196 de ellos mujeres y 197 varones. Intervenciones: Se encuestó a adolescentes y jóvenes, usando cuestionario autoaplicado. Para el análisis estadístico, se utilizó chi cuadrado, odds ratio y regresión logística. Principales medidas de resultados: Uso del condón. Resultados: La conducta sexual presenta diferencia en cuanto a la primera relación coital, siendo más precoces los varones. El uso adecuado del condón en los últimos seis meses fue mínimo en ambos sexos; la proporción de mujeres que refirieron que nunca lo habían usado fue muy alta. Conclusiones: El análisis multivariado mostró que los factores asociados al no uso de condón en varones fueron la falta de disponibilidad, disminución del placer y relación amorosa.
