We review the hypotheses proposed in this respect by reviewing Hergé’s use of sources for the creation of his imagery, before comparing the iconography of the image of Rascar Capac with the images proposed as source of inspiration. The conclusion is that the character of Rascar Capac is inspired by a drawing in the French encyclopaedia Larousse, which represents a mummy from the Chachapoyas area in northern Peru. This mummy is on display at the Musée de l’Homme in Paris, so the idea that a mummy on display at the Cinquantenaire Museum in Brussels was the source of inspiration is ruled out.El presente artículo acaba con las especulaciones acerca de la fuente de inspiración del historietista belga Hergé en la creación de su icónico personaje de Rascar Capac, la momia de un rey inca en la historieta “Las aventuras de Tintín”. Se revisa las hipótesis propuestas al respecto mediante una revisión de las fuentes de Hergé, antes de comparar la iconografía de la imagen de Rascar Capac con imágenes que han sido propuestas como su fuente de inspiración. Se llega a la conclusión de que el personaje de Rascar Capac está inspirado en un dibujo en la enciclopedia francesa Larousse, el cual representa una momia del área Chachapoyas en el norte del Perú.
