The elaboration of such an important document should not be done in isolation, turning its back on the community. It is better for the community to become deeply involved, with the advice of lexicography experts, in the elaboration of the dictionary of its language. In this way, they have a powerful tool to reaffirm their identity and achieve the revaluation of the language in question. The following ideas are based on lexicographic work with a view to creating a dictionary of the Seri language.En este artículo, se sostiene que la importancia lingüística del diccionario se incrementa notablemente si este es fruto de un trabajo de toda la comunidad (lo que puede denominarse diccionario comunitario). La elaboración de un documento de tanta trascendencia no se debe hacer de manera aislada, dándole la espalda a la comunidad. Es mejor que la comunidad se comprometa, con la asesoría de expertos en lexicografía, profundamente en la elaboración del diccionario de su lengua. De ese modo, se tiene una herramienta poderosa para reafirmar la identidad y lograr la revaloración de la lengua en cuestión. Las ideas que siguen se apoyan en el trabajo lexicográfico con miras a confeccionar un diccionario de la lengua seri.Neste artigo, argumenta-se que a importância linguística do dicionário aumenta muito se ele for o resultado do trabalho de toda a comunidade (o que pode ser chamado de dicionário comunitário). A elaboração de um documento tão importante não deve ser feita isoladamente, dando as costas à comunidade. É melhor que a comunidade, com a orientação de especialistas em lexicografia, se envolva profundamente no desenvolvimento do dicionário de seu idioma. Essa é uma ferramenta poderosa para reafirmar a identidade e alcançar a revalorização do idioma em questão.
