In this sense, determining the academic motivations and professional expectations of students is extremely interesting since they involve personal, social and contextual factors about individuals and careers. This paper aims to develop a systematic review of the literature that studies academic motivation and career expectations. However, it is also an extension and development of an existing systematic review: Factors related to university students’ motivation and instruments for its evaluation: A systematic review (Sanchez and Martinez, 2022). For the analysis we searched the Web of Science, Scopus, SciELO and RedALyC databases for the terms “academic motivation” and “professional expectations”. Seventy-nine articles were found that met the criteria proposed for the research. These articles were published between 2009 and 2022. La motivación es el motor de toda acción humana. Es uno de los factores más importantes para elegir y estudiar exitosamente una carrera profesional. El momento de la elección de la vocación en la vida de un joven es determinante y se realiza con limitada información y experiencia. En ese sentido, determinar las motivaciones académicas y expectativas profesionales en estudiantes resulta sumamente interesante, ya que implican factores personales, sociales y contextuales sobre los individuos y las carreras. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo desarrollar una revisión sistemática de la bibliografía que estudia la motivación académica y las expectativas profesionales. Sin embargo, es a su vez la extensión y el desarrollo de una revisión sistemática ya existente: Factors related to university students’ motivation and instruments for its evaluation: A systematic review (Sánchez y Martinez, 2022). Para el análisis se realizó la búsqueda en las bases de datos de Web of Science, Scopus, SciELO y RedALyC, de los términos (en español e inglés) “motivación académica” y “expectativas profesionales”. Se encontraron 79 artículos que cumplían con los criterios propuestos para la investigación. Estos artículos fueron publicados de 2009 a 2022.
