The aim of this research is to analyze the planning of historical centers, through two Latin American experiences where the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) approach has been applied. The cases correspond to the Historic Center of Lima-Peru and the Historic Center of Cuenca-Ecuador. Although this approach, promoted by Unesco since 2011, is controversial and de- batable among experts in the field, it is considered necessary and important to know how this new tool for the planning of historic centers is being implemented and the results it is generating. Una clara percepción de la relación entre los Centros Históricos y la ciudad es vital para determinar el proceso de planificación. La gestión de los valores y atributos del Centro Histórico son un constan- te desafío que debe ser afrontado de la mejor manera con la participación ciudadana en el marco de una planificación estratégica. La presente investigación tiene por objetivo analizar la planificación de centros históricos, a través de dos experiencias latinoamericanas donde se ha aplicado el enfo- que de Paisaje Urbano Histórico (PUH). Los casos corresponden al Centro Histórico de Lima-Perú y al Centro Histórico de Cuenca-Ecuador.
