The author exposes the background, rebellion describes it as indigenous, discusses its cultural characteristics, raises the challenges that remain pending to achieve an inclusive society, perhaps the most important challenge faced by Latin American societies with a significant indigenous population and history.Desde 1990 al 2000 los indígenas ecuatorianos protagonizaron un movimiento social y político que alcanzó a participar en el primer plano de la lucha por el poder. Por primera vez, miles de comuneros obligaron a las autoridades a reconocerlos y negociar directamente con ellos; en el momento culminante uno de sus líderes llegó a ser incorporado en la cúspide del gobierno.
