The ultraviolet B radiation indices determined at the daily, monthly, seasonal and multi-annual levels reached maximum values ​​of 8 to 10 at very high risk levels and 11 at extremely high risk levels in the months of January, February, November and December with frequencies of occurrence 67% and 33%, while the minimum rates recorded were 3 to 5 with a moderate level of risk in the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, with frequencies of 40% and 83% during the months of June and July respectively. The results obtained constitute important indicators to take preventive measures for the population against exposure to UV-B ultraviolet radiation and minimize its harmful effects on health.El objetivo es cuantificar y caracterizar la radiación ultravioleta B sobre la ciudad de Tacna utilizando la información básica de radiación ultravioleta B (UV-B) correspondiente al periodo 2012 – 2014, registrada en la estación meteorológica agrícola principal MAP-Jorge Basadre Grohmann, ciudad de Tacna, operada por el SENAMHI, a través de la medición del índice de radiación ultravioleta (IUV). Los índices de radiación ultravioleta B determinados a nivel diaria, mensual, estacional y multianual alcanzaron valores máximos de 8 a 10 a niveles de riesgo muy alta  y de 11 a niveles de riesgo extremadamente alta en los meses de enero, febrero, noviembre y diciembre con frecuencias de ocurrencia 67 % y 33 %, mientras que los índices mínimos registrados fueron de 3 a 5 con nivel de riesgo moderada en los horarios de 8:00 h y 17:00 h, con frecuencias del 40 % y 83 % durante los meses de junio y julio respectivamente.
