That aspect is the body, understood by science as aset of organs that respond to stimuli; however, this is not exhausted in the purely objective,but transcends it. In this sense, phenomenological postulates allow us to understand theexperience of the body in a different way. To this end, the proposals of the French philosopherMaurice Merleau-Ponty are analyzed. Finally, we reflect on the contributions of his thoughtto psychopathology.El escrito versa sobre las contribuciones que la ciencia ha realizado al entendimiento del hombrea lo largo de la historia, asimismo, se pone de manifiesto sus limitaciones metodológicas queimpiden abordar aspectos exclusivamente humanos. Ese aspecto es el cuerpo, entendido por laciencia como un conjunto de órganos que responden a estímulos; sin embargo, este no se agotaen lo puramente objetivo, sino que lo trasciende. En tal sentido, los postulados fenomenológicospermiten comprender de una manera distinta la experiencia del cuerpo. Para ello, se analizanlas propuestas del filósofo francés Maurice Merleau – Ponty. Por último, se reflexionan sobrelas contribuciones de su pensamiento a la psicopatología.A escrita trata das contribuições que a ciência deu para a compreensão do homem ao longo da história. Da mesma forma, revelam-se também suas limitações metodológicas que o impedem de abordar exclusivamente aspectos humanos. Esse aspecto é o corpo, entendido pela ciência como um conjunto de órgãos que respondem a estímulos, porém, este não se esgota no puramente objetivo, mas o transcende. Nesse sentido, os postulados fenomenológicos permitem compreender a experiência do corpo de uma forma diferenciada, para isso são analisadas as propostas do filósofo francês Maurice Merleau – Ponty.
