The quantitative type was considered, the explanatory level and the design is quasi-experimental, where the pre-test and post-test were applied in the control and experimental groups. The population consisted of a total of 73 students. The technique used was observation, and the data collection instrument was the "rubric". The results showed that 87.4% of the students in the experimental group achieved passing grades, while in the control group this difference is not very significant. It was concluded that competency-based learning significantly improves academic performance in the Peruvian history course in law school students.Entre los problemas académicos más relevantes en un contexto educativo universitario, está   relacionado con el desconocimiento de metodologías y estrategias de aprendizaje que el docente debe impartir en el aula, por ello, es preponderante desarrollar el aprendizaje basado en competencias. El objetivo fue determinar de qué manera el aprendizaje basado en competencias mejora el rendimiento académico del curso de Historia del Perú en los estudiantes del I ciclo de la facultad de derecho de la Universidad de Huánuco. Se consideró el tipo cuantitativo, el nivel explicativo y el diseño es cuasiexperimental, donde se aplicó la preprueba y posprueba en los grupos control y experimental. La población estuvo constituida por un total de 73 estudiantes. La técnica utilizada fue la observación, y el instrumento de recolección de datos, fue la “rúbrica”. Los resultados demostraron que el 87.4% de los estudiantes del grupo experimental lograron calificativos aprobatorios, mientras que en el grupo control esta diferencia es poco significativa.
