We used a questionnaire that applied sociodemographic characteristics of mothers and measured the cognitive level about acute diarrhea: definition, risk factors and preventive measures, before and after the program; also an observation guide was applied to evaluate the preventive measures that mothers use before and after the educational program. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this program the statistical test of ranges with Wilcoxon sigh was applied. About the cognitive level we had as a result a statistical significance of -4.224, with bilateral critical level (sig. asintot. bilateral): 0.000 and it can be deduced that the educational program influences the increase of knowledge level, and the level of preventive measures we have Z: -4.104 and its bilateral critical level (sig. asintot. bilateral): 0.000 what indicates that the test is significant and the null hypothesis is rejected. It is concluded that the educational program increase the level of knowledge and improve the application of measures to prevent diarrheal diseases.El objetivo fue determinar el nivel de efectividad del programa educativo sobre prevención de diarreas agudas para mejorar el conocimiento y las prácticas de las madres. CLAS Pillco Marca, Enero-Mayo 2011. Es un estudio de tipo cuantitativo, según el análisis de datos es de tipo cuasiexperimental de un solo grupo con pre y dos post pruebas. Se trabajó con una muestra de 25 madres. Para la recolección de los datos se aplicó un cuestionario que identificó las características sociodemográficos de las madres y midió el nivel cognitivo sobre la diarrea aguda: definición, factores de riesgo y medidas preventivas, antes y después del programa; así mismo se aplicó una guía de observación para evaluar las medidas preventivas que aplican las madres antes y después del programa educativo. Para evaluar la efectividad del programa educativo se aplicó la prueba estadística de los rangos con signo de Wilcoxon. Sobre el nivel cognitivo se obtuvo como resultado una significancia estadística de -4.224, con su nivel crítico bilateral (Sig. asintót. bilateral): 0.000 por lo que se deduce que el programa educativo influye en el incremento del nivel de conocimiento, así también en relación al nivel de medidas preventivas se encontró Z: -4.104 y su nivel crítico bilateral (Sig. asintót. bilateral): 0.000 lo que indica que la prueba resulta significativa y se rechaza la hipótesis nula.
