The early stages oftrematode is unclear because they use jellyfish, ctenophores, molluscs, chaetognaths, copepods and fish larvae as first and second intermediate hosts.The aim of this work was to study the parasitic helminths in calanoid copepods in the Ensenada de la Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Zooplankton was obtainedwith a conical net of 1.5 m in length, mesh size of 300 microns and a digital flowmeter. Net tows weremade in sea surface for 5 min at 0,2 knots/h at a fixed station sampling during the last week of June 2008.Samples were fixed in formalin 4%. Copepods with parasites were sorted and identified. The extractedworms were stained with Gomori Trichome, cleared with methyl salicylate and mounted in permanentpreparations with synthetic resin. Prevalence (P) and average intensity of infection (I) were calculated.Adult females of calanoid copepod Acartia lilljeborgii Giesbrecht, 1889 had a density field of 14 100orgs/55 m3 and only fifteen had not encysted metacercariae of hemiurids in the hemocoeloma (P =0.106%). The hemiurids identified were: Brachyphallus sp. (n = 5, P = 0.035%, I = 1), Dinosoma sp. (n =2, P = 0.014%, I = 1), Hemiurus sp. (n = 1, P = 0.014%, I = 1) and Parahemiurus sp. (n = 2, P = 0.021%, I= 1). The possible role of copepods as intermediate or paratenic hosts in the life cycle of helminths isdiscussed. This is the first record of parasitism in marine pelagic crustaceans calanoid by digeneans inMexico.

This is the first record of parasitism in marine pelagic crustaceans calanoid by digeneans inMexico.En la Bahía y Ensenada de La Paz existe una fuerte variabilidad en la composición y abundancia deespecies de copépodos pelágicos, pero no existe información de los niveles de infección por parásitos.Las primeras fases del ciclo de vida de los tremátodos es poco claro, debido a que utilizan medusas, ctenóforos, moluscos, quetognatos, copépodos y larvas de peces como primeros y segundos hospederos intermediarios. Por lo que el objetivo de este trabajo fue el de conocer los helmintos que presentan los copépodos calanoides en la Ensenada de la Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. El zooplancton fue obtenido con una red cónica de 1,5 m de longitud, malla de 300 μm y un flujómetrodigital. Los arrastres fueron superficiales y circulares por 5 min a una velocidad de 0,2 nudos/h en unaestación fija de muestreo durante la última semana de junio de 2008. Las muestras se fijaron enformalina 4%. Los copépodos parasitados se separaron e identificaron. Los helmintos extraídos setiñeron con Tricómica de Gomori, se aclararon con salicilato de metilo y se montaron en preparacionespermanentes con resina sintética. Se calculó la prevalencia (P) e intensidad promedio de infección (I). El copépodo Acartia lilljeborgii Giesbrecht, 1889 tuvo una densidad de 14 100 orgs/55 m3 y solamentequince hembras adultas presentaron metacercarias no enquistadas de hemiúridos en el hemoceloma (P=0,106%). Los hemiúridos identificados son: Brachyphallus sp. (n= 5; P= 0,035%; I=1), Dinosoma sp. (n= 2; P= 0,014 %; I=1), Hemiurus sp. (n=1; P= 0,014%; I=1) y Parahemiurus sp. (n=2; P=0,021%;I=1). Se discute el posible papel del copépodo como hospedero intermediario o paraténico en el ciclo devida de los helmintos.
